Invitations for the Cowgirl Party

It seems that the daughter's birthday party are getting bigger and more elaborate every year. Last year was the princess party, this year it is the cowgirl / pony riding theme.

Here are some pictures used on the invitation to this years event:

Old Pecan Street Festival, Austin, TX

We took the kids to the Old Pecan Street Festival, in Austin, TX. Unfortunately it was a little hotter than we expected, however, it was a fun time for all.

They close down 6th street, which used to be called Pecan Street (hence the name) and fill it up with food, jewelery, beer and every other vendor you could imagine.

One of our kids favorite was the petting zoo and the face painting booth. They got their very own tattoos - eh - arm paintings.

Big smiles for the camera.

Fun Excursion to Disney's Animal Kingdom

Yesterday was the day we did the things we always used to marvel at. Running around at a theme park with little children seemed so crazy when we did not have children. I remember vividly looking at moms and dads and thinking why one would put themselves through long lines, summer heat, and upset children.

Call it building memories, or getting brownie points - a strange transition happens when little children enter the picture. Once crazy things now make sense :)

Here are some pics from Disney's Animal Kingdom:

Our gracious hosts here in Orlando - the Zs :)

Us at the end of the excursion - safari as they call it. Still smiling :)

A girl after my own heart

I am so proud of my daughter to follow me into the "long" family tradition of taking self portraits. Obviously I say this a little "tongue in cheek", however, she must have gotten it from somewhere.

Here is her self-portrait that I found on the camera this morning:

And here is mine - professionally done :)

A matter of perspective

Isn't it funny how we get used to things. They are around us long enough and we do not perceive them as different. Strange habbits, messy gardens, dirty cars or LITTLE children. Having a newborn just made my 2 year old look big and my 4 year old humongous. No, they have not grown any in the last week, it is our perspective that has changed. Our little boy makes them look so different to us now.

Here is a picture for comparison:

Here is our newest addition with his siblings and cousins.

Playing with light

The following pictures were taken inside the house in a mostly dark corner. Lukas and Sophia had an LED light to play with and keeping the shutter open for 2 seconds we got some interesting effects.

Most of the pictures are a little grainy since they were tightly cropped after the fact. However, for this particular short video it was good enough :)

Striking, scraping, shaking...

How do you get kids fired up and have them start using everything as a drum?

Easy, attend one of Mark Shelton's shows.

Well, maybe not for this guy, he slept through the first part of the show .

Getting after it with some driving beats.

Explaining how percussion instruments work to the kids at the Killeen Community Center.

After the show Sophia and Lukas had their CD purchase autographed:

Things a man has to do himself - even if he's two.

The big difference between your first and second birthday is that one is expected to perform certain duties when you turn two.

Here we go - Mommy and sister are cheering him on..

Full concentration...

This should not be too difficult, deep breath.

Blow.

Done - Happy Birthday Lukas.

Enjoy.
